Bernardino Lucadello (1662-1708)
The Presentation of Mary in the Temple

Church of St. Jeremiah (San Geremia), Venice

This work follows Tintoretto's Presentation of the Virgin, even to the obelisk in the far background, but it is less successful artistically than that work or its other imitators. Another difference is the enthusiasm of the girls at the foot of the stairs. In the Tintoretto, their attitude is more ambiguous. Similarly, Lucadello's Mary is pictured as rushing up the steps whereas Tintoretto's movement is more stately and dignified.
